compiling problems

i have visual C++ and im trying to compile it from source im very confused on how to do it though if anybody could please help,im trying to port many apps from linux to windows and debug them but so far its been very difficult(opensource is not a windows strongpoint) getting anything to compile into a usable form (.exe) i know how to compile in linux and OS X (thank you make!)

Visual C++ lacks some features of ISO C that PearPC is using in its source code.

There have been people who have made some progress towards getting PearPC to compile in Visual C++, but this is very frustrating and hard work.

My personal suggestion is to get Cygwin, and compile it the same way we all are. It is *free* after all.

How do you add in patches to Cygwin compiling?

How do you keep the file size down? (Mine always become really large for some reason.)

To apply patches use: patch -p1 -i NameOfThePatchFile.patch
To make the bin smaller: strip ppc.exe

ok i know that its hard but i mean portin linux apps in general how can i port them with Visual Studio? becuase in linux you had a shell cd?ed to the directory type ./configure then make and then make install viola, binary

ive also tried ming but i havent figured out how to make a .exe with make,is it some type of variable of other application that can do this?

almost every port of a linux app to windows has been done with cygwin...

And what's about the other direction? Unreal Engine was ported to Linux.
